Savvytel Moving to Optus Network

by on August 5, 2010

We have been promoting the Savvytel service since we started PrepaidPlans over 2 years ago and I actually have two of their sims myself, the first I purchased for my wife and the second for my parents, so I am an advocate of the service.

There are some changes going on at Savvytel that many customers are gradually becoming aware of. The business was recently purchased by a new team and they are working hard to improve the background systems as well as marketing and bring in a new product range.

The biggest change of all however is the move away from the Vodafone network to Optus’s 3G network. Is this good or bad? Well its good because network coverage will be much better and if you are gradually looking to get your self a phone that will access the internet, having 3G coverage is your first priority.

So what does this mean for you? Most subscribers and there are tens of thousands of them, would have received the following letter. It basically requests that you ask for a new sim card, this one being with the Optus network. All the same privileges remain with Savvytel ie credit never expire and very cheap call rates, its just the underlying network that is changing. There is a link in the email that you need to click, so that your sim can be ordered.

Here is a copy of the letter:

Dear ,

Licensing of the “Savvytel” brand has been acquired by a new Service Provider, one which has a strategic alliance with Optus. Why Optus? Because Optus delivers true 3G network coverage and service quality. There’s no need for concern, SavvyTel’s new SavvyMax product has all the important features that you are used to, but on Optus’ 3G network. The SavvyMAX product features include:

  • No contracts (still)
  • Call Credits that Never Expire! (still)
  • Automatic account top-up option (still)
  • Savvy to Savvy free minutes on every recharge (minimum $20.00) (new feature)

Soon to be released products include post-paid plans with handset options and mobile broadband.

The original Savvytel customers have been purchased by the new Service Provider and to connect onto the Optus 3G network you will need our complimentary SavvyMAX SIM.

All your unused call credits will be transferred across when your new SavvyMAX SIM is activated for use in your unlocked mobile handset – just follow the link to register to receive your SavvyMAX SIM card*.

***YOUR EXISTING SAVVYTEL VODAFONE NETWORK COVERAGE WILL CEASE TO FUNCTION VERY SOON so it is important that you register to receive your complimentary SavvyMAX SIM***

We will endeavour to make this a smooth transition to the Optus network, but acknowledge there are likely to be some challenges in moving our extensive customer base.  We ask for your patience during this transition.  However, should you have any questions regarding the new SavvyMAX 3G service please contact our Customer Care Team on 1300 885 446 or 1300 885 446

Kind regards,

Savvytel Team
