VIRGIN BYO SMART CAPS More and more mobile operators are beginning to take a liking to Sim Only or no contract plans. Virgin recently upgraded their plans and now offer a very competitive range if you are keen on using data on your mobile. This covers web browsing as well as social media access such as Twitter and Facebook. BYO Smart Caps
Each of the five plans available are detailed below.
The value in the data allowance looks great. I use my phone predominantly for social media work and would be on it at least 1 hour a day. In a month I easily get through 500MB. Virgin is certainly not the only no contract plan that is worth considering if data is your motivation. Check out KISS Mobile, Think Mobile as well as Live Connected. Each of these plans give you close to 1GB for between $20 and $40 per month. Remember these are all no contract plans. You can compare them all here. SIM ONLY MOBILE BROADBAND Its been a while since we covered sim only mobile broadband plans or should I say starter kits that enable you to BYO compatible USB modem. In this case you are only buying the sim card that fits into the USB modem. At the moment there are five key plans on offer, with sim cards ranging in price from $2 to $30 (some don’t come with any data credit). Vodafone and Optus are offering the best in value. Optus has the sim plus 1GB for $30 (credit lasts for 30 days) and Vodafone is offering 1GB for $29, again with 30 days expiry. If you don’t care about the data and just want a sim for emergency or so you can swap networks when you need to, then also consider Virgin’s starter kit which costs just $10 and gives you 300MB for 30 days. Great if you are travelling for a few days and just want to check in on emails once or twice a day. All the sim only starter kits are covered by prepaidplans and you can compare them here. PREPAID BROADBAND – BEST STARTER KITS Vodafone is the only change this week. See them all below:
Pricing/offers current as at 6/8/2010. Virgin offer valid till 17/8/10 unless extended. iPHONE 4 PREPAID & CONTRACT You certainly couldn’t of missed the hype that was building up to the launch of the iPhone 4 in Australia last Friday. Its amazing how excited people can get over a gadget. Well the plans are out and you can now order your iPhone 4 from any of the major mobile operators. We have summarised them all on one page for you. Prepaid iPhones are also available directly via Apple or from several other local mobile phone stores. We have many of them covered here as well. Also don’t forget EBay as another source to look at if you are keen to buy the phone outright. VIVID WIRELESS 4G – yes its here and Vivid Wireless is the first of the mobile operators to introduce it. Why bother? 4G has been designed specifically for mobile use (so we are told) and should technically be faster than using 3G which is what every other mobile broadband service offers. Vivid Wireless is owned by the Seven Network. They have a broad range of plans starting at 1GB for $15 and ranging to 15GB for $149. The USB starts at $129. Perth was the first city to be offered this service. They are now also covering parts of Melbourne and Sydney (CBD only from what I could see on their maps). Learn more here.. ONLINE CHAT SUPPORT If you have a question that needs answering eg what coverage do I get in my area, we are here to help through our Free Live Chat service.
