Mobile Broadband

by on May 4, 2009

Its a game of “copy cat”. In the last fortnight, Westnet, Internode and today Vodafone have all launched Mobile Broadband packages. Actually, Vodafone’s announcement today was in relation to its prepaid package.

Having spend many years in Product Management, you wonder why it took them so long to launch a prepaid product, when even Crazy John’s beat them. Maybe it isn’t as fast selling as the post paid model.

What is disappointing about all 3 providers is that none have actually come out with anything new or different. Both Internode and Westnet launched pricing close to or even higher than Optus’. The only key difference between the providers record on service, which both Internode and Westnet do well in.

Anyhow, there doesn’t seem to be too many providers who now don’t have a mobile broadband or prepaid offering, except maybe Exetel. Not sure what they are waiting on. Maybe they thing they have missed the boat on this one so no real need to launch another me-too offering.

The thing is, sometimes in the world of product management and marketing, you at a minimum have to have a complete offering even if it isn’t competitive because it makes you look weak if you don’t. Why do you think the banks have so many products.
